Comments on: Montana Ranked 12th Happiest State

Let’s be civil. The Flathead Beacon encourages vigorous discussion and lively debate, but we will delete comments that attack other readers, make accusations we can’t verify, stray too far off topic, criticize local businesses (call them if you have a problem), convict someone of a crime, use profanity or are simply judged to be in bad taste. We don’t always have someone moderating comments, so we ask for your help: If you see a comment that violates these ground rules, or you simply deem it offensive, please e-mail editor [at] flatheadbeacon.com. Who did they ask? The people with jobs? The people who smoke dope all the time or sit in bars all day long? Not sure where they get their statistics for these stupid poles.

Happiest State? Where are these people? Certainly not the bloggers on this FB site! They are the absolute most UNHAPPY group of people around! But that’s why I like to log on. It’s entertaining seeing this group go at each other.

What a great article.
Good questions there, Tony.
You could go anywhere and meet persons who have a great outlook and attitude and are just happy to be.  In the same room may be a racist, terrorist, religious/anti-religious fanatic, or politicians who despise the presence of persons having a differing opinion.
So Tony’s point is very valid.  The article could have stated what percentage of people interviewed were in church or in prison, were CEOs of fantastically successful businesses or were standing in the welfare line.

Aren’t we also one of the top ranked states for suicide?

Beacon Readers Rated This Comment:

Yes Mark and also highest drunk driving fatality rate.

Yes Mark but the surveyers probably did not interview anyone who was so unhappy they killed themselves.
Tony I think Montana is second and Wyoming is first in the fatality rate.
I wonder how Montana rates for bankruptcy.

Oops I almost helped ruin the tone of the article.  It’s about happiness.  The title was not “Montana Ranked 38th Saddest State.“
Smile.  You could be asked to take part in a survey.

Well….now we can add Flathead Unemployment Rate Hits Double Digits” to all of our happiness, of course it’s not accurate since alot of people have not filed because they do not qualify.

In most of the state, I just have to go outdoors to stay pretty darn happy.
Only when I have to get within about 10 miles of Kalispell
do things get kind of depressing.
Except to see friends.
Then I’m okay.
Even there.

Snort up a fat line of oxymorphone and I feel freakin glorious.  Same happens at altitude hours into a long hike.  Sex, drugs, rock and roll..Jesus for some.  Just once in my life I’d like some reporter or statistician to ask me a question.  I’d proceed to choke em out or f em..that’s just how I roll.  Guess that makes me on the happy team.

Nice one, Chad.  Hey things will get better once they legalize pot, quit threatening to make us drive more carefully, reduce the police force, quit tasering kids, rebuild all the casinos, build more box stores, get a pre-release center up and running, close the parks, put the armed forces recruiting center into Hutton Ranch where it belongs (didn’t know about that one, didja- you heard it here first), build a new library, start (but not finish) the road to nowhere, put in a sewer system north of town, get a law enforcement training center so desperately needed by the reduced force, start a sales tax, give us tax breaks, rebuild an art center, get a new mall,  make up new taxes, overthrow Evergreen,  okay I’ll stop.  No I won’t…
Funny, I got a call from a survey taker recently asking for my opinions on the supposed upcoming restructuring of the GOP.  Question number one was about whether I’d presently be leaning toward Republican or Democrat?  My answer was neither, more radical change than what either could ever offer is needed, and if I’m leaning anywhere lately it might be somewhat toward Socialism, as a matter of fact!  “CLICK” survey over, “okay kids, you can have the phone now”...

They surveyed, the citizens for a better Flathead (AKA citizens for a new California).  Or one of the other stupid self serving special interest groups. It was on the day that they just got done smokin a bowl when they found out they got more money to do their stupid impact studies. Their only ranked 12th happiest because they don’t have complete control yet.

Poor pathetic whiners.  You know the saying?  “If you don’t like it here, don’t let the door hit you in the behind on the way out!“
Took a beautiful walk yesterday with my faithful dog.  For only an instant it crossed my mind that probably the unhappy losers were still hiding behind their computers and spewing their paranoia.  The rest of the time I just walked and thought how lucky I am to be in this beautiful state, and the awesome Flathead Valley.  Every car I encountered gifted me with a wave and a smile.  Yes, how lucky I am!
We and our country are going thru some very serious times, but there is much hope on the horizon.  If all this doesn’t work, at least it is an attempt to a solution, which is more than we’ve had for years.  We have on hand some excellent leaders, who were put in place by overwhelming majority vote.  We must give them all the support we can.  What have you done for your country lately?  Done anything to help out your neighbors?  How about helping yourself?  Smile, it really isn’t painful.

I love it here - the mountains, wildlife, fishing, hunting, camping, fresh air, and even the rednecks; they make life very interesting.

I lived in Utah for many years and can second this polls results. Utah is an amazingly fun and positive place to live.

Figures you’d think that Roark… Utah also has the highest rate of anti-depressant use in the country. Interesting irony huh?

I think anywhere that Roark resides, or claims to reside would lead to depression in anyone.

John, can you back that up with facts? Nancy, do you have anything of actual value to contribute to this thread?

Listen, people, don’t take what you have there for granted.  Everyplace has problems, but at least you still have a beautiful place to live.  Take it from one who lives in the 49th-ranked ######## of Kentucky and wishes everyday that I could come to MT to stay.

Nancy, it’s statements like yours which serve to re-inforce the polls results.

Roark, I’‘m with Nancy and the rest of the good folks of this Valley. You are a nut case, please go away. If you need clarification on what that means…look it up.

Based on a study of actual prescriptions - Utahns were found to consumer anti-depressants at a rate two-times higher than the national average. The highest in the country. Here is a link: http://www.usu.edu/psycho101/lectures/chp2methods/study.html
