Let’s be civil. This election is proof that America is hopelessly infested with the anti-liberty, immoral idea’s of the left.

Nice Roark. Very gracious comment, really captures the spirit of the country at the moment. This is a democracy, remember? Sometimes your guy doesn’t win. McCain recognizes that, as do most thinking people.

Dude, the water’s lapping at your doorstep.  It’s time for a new diagnosis.

Jonathan Weber, you’re a perfect example of the brain dead zombies walking around and destroying this great nation with your anti-liberty idea’s and subjectivist appeasement.

The election is “proof” of a lot of things. One, that in their majority vote for Obama, that Montanans are independent-thinkers. Exciting and encouraging to see the treasure state go blue.

“All, too, will bear in mind this sacred principle, that though the will of the majority is in all cases to prevail, that will to be rightful must be reasonable; that the minority possess their equal rights, which equal law must protect, and to violate would be oppression.“

God Bless the internet, for it is the book(s) of the past:

Books constitute capital. A library book lasts as long as a house, for hundreds of years. It is not, then, an article of mere consumption but fairly of capital, and often in the case of professional men, setting out in life, it is their only capital.
Thomas Jefferson

—-No. It’s quite frightening and discouraging to see Montana go blue. I value freedom, hence a blue Montana threatens my life, liberty, and property.

Montana is standing up and rejecting evangelical fascism. Roark: you’re a stupid person. Just move away to a place where there is not society to “steal away your liberty” you dumbass.

It will be interesting to see how the Kalispell City Council responds to the voters.  Transparency is a good thing which results in a better product for all.

Brain Schott—don’t expect reasonable and measured responses here at the Beacon Blogs. I’ve been following them for a number of weeks, and it’s the same few people talking amongst themselves. The majority of them are extremists of one flavor or another and trying to have a reasoned discourse with them is like trying to put the bang back into a firecraker after it’s gone off.
It’s sad because I had hoped the Beacon would be a place where interesting and diverse opinions could meet and chat. It’s become is a hall full of people shouting at the top of their lungs and throwing personal attacks at anyone who disagrees with their particular position.

Rod - for once, I agree with you!  I like the line about the firecracker.  Good one.  OK - so now, we need to try and actually fix stuff.  Economy, taxes, spending etc.  America may have quite a collection of bozos, but there are bright and articulate people capable of lifting us out of the current mess.  Given the American capacity for ingenuity, manufacturing, well, just all forms of creativety, I am confident we will see better times ahead - if - we remember the mistakes and don’t repeat them.  Good luck to all of us.

i think a lot of you are very willfully ignoring the simple, intangible fact that the Obama campaign convinced literally millions of people, of all races and ages and economic backgrounds, who previously could have given two shits about politics to get involved, donate, volunteer, talk to their neighbors, engage in political debate, read a newspaper, and vote.
that, right there, is change. that is change that is inspired and led by the spirit of a dedicated community organizer, and which creates hope among the previously hopeless. that is change that means more than a third party President could ever mean by itself.
combine that with the man’s unparalleled understanding of the constitution, the overwhelming joy the rest of the world feels on America’s behalf, his sensible tax plans, his dedication to universal health care and renewable energy, his stance on net neutrality and IP laws, and yes, i think we have reason to hope for a better future under Obama.
take a closer look at the electoral map. he flipped all the swing states but one. he turned solidly red counties purple, and purple counties solidly blue. he won by a larger margin than Reagan, and has a clear mandate from the electoral and popular vote as well as a senate majority to try and deliver on some of his promises.
he took money from Wall Street, yes, but he took more money from people like me and my neighbors.
is he the ideal candidate? not by a long shot. is he going to sweep in and create magical, immediate change? of course not. would Nader or McKinney or Barr or Paul have been able to do that? of course not!
i firmly believe he’s the right man for this job, at this moment, and i’m proud to see it.
and lastly – most of you who are predicting a disastrous or ineffective future under Obama also predicted that he never had a chance to even win the primaries, so forgive me if i’m taking your current predictions with a grain of salt.
