Comments on: Montana to Keep Death Penalty
Let’s be civil.
The Flathead Beacon encourages vigorous discussion and lively debate, but we will delete comments that attack other readers, make accusations we can’t verify, stray too far off topic, criticize local businesses (call them if you have a problem), convict someone of a crime, use profanity or are simply judged to be in bad taste. We don’t always have someone moderating comments, so we ask for your help: If you see a comment that violates these ground rules, or you simply deem it offensive, please e-mail webmaster [at] flatheadbeacon.com.

A loud push by socialists does not equal a strong push.
If this had passed, the government would be out in the next election.

Wendy Warburton:
“the vast majority of Democrats consistently vote pro-abortion, while the vast majority of Republicans here are fighting for life.

Roy Brown:
“I think we have to be consistent. If we are pro-life, we have to say to ourselves, How can we be for the death penalty?”

If you are pro life you are pro life from conception to natural death. Roy Brown has it right.

No, that doesn’t wash with me.
The days when anyone could assume a Republican has abortion or gay marriage at the top of his list of issues are over. Roy Brown has it right for his tiny base constituency and only for them. I’m not an extremist on that single issue either way, and I deplore the methods of the “pro-choice” thugs, but these are not linked in the minds of most people and neither should they be. It leads to non-sensical, illogical “arguments” like saying because we’re pro-life, we should be anti-Second Amendment.
This is the same sort of logical fallacy that drives the Catholic Church to be anti-birth control while deploring the death penalty and abortion, a stance that has lost them half their base.
