Comments on: Proposed Land Sale Draws Fierce Opposition
Let’s be civil.
The Flathead Beacon encourages vigorous discussion and lively debate, but we will delete comments that attack other readers, make accusations we can’t verify, stray too far off topic, criticize local businesses (call them if you have a problem), convict someone of a crime, use profanity or are simply judged to be in bad taste. We don’t always have someone moderating comments, so we ask for your help: If you see a comment that violates these ground rules, or you simply deem it offensive, please e-mail webmaster [at] flatheadbeacon.com.

“I think a clear message out of tonight is that this can’t be allowed to become private land,” Edd Blackler, a Democrat running for the House District 9 seat this fall and one of the meeting’s organizers, said. “It’s an important recreation area that shouldn’t be developed.”

Doesn’t the state of Montana have a 40M dollar surplus from last year’s tax collections?  Is the left hand looking at the right?

Roark…you’re not a bad tripe-spewer yourself.

It’s public land…and should stay that way.  I applaud those who stand up against the continuing sell-out-to-developers and Californication of the Flathead.

Unless “public” land is being used for either military, police, or disaster purposes, then the only purpose it is serving is wasting taxpayer money to maintain it. “Public” land is an oxymoron, since the “public” is made up of individuals, and not every individual desires to fund government owned land. If an individual or a group of individuals wishes to purchase the land and open it up to the public that’s fine, but to impose a taxpayer supported chunk of land is another thing. You know, there is a lot of “public” land in socialist countries as well, land that they lock up similar to how they lock up and close of most of glacier park.
