Nevada has to throw him.  But you never know.  Washington state had the brass to throw out Tip O’neal when he was speaker of the house.

When enviromentalists put all their eggs in one basket you get a Harry reid on occasion. The process of turning public land into patentened land is not as easy as the writer infers. Is he against all mining or getting more royalties?

READERS RATED THIS COMMENT:

I won’t support Reid’s stance on this issue, but neither can I support your conclusion that “we might be better off with an anti-environment freshman Republican.”

Why ?

As you go on to state:

“With Democratic majorities in both houses and a Democrat in the White House, the time was finally right to revise the 1872 law, something Republicans traditionally oppose.”

Given the circumstances I am ‘slightly’ more comfortable with a single democratic senator in opposition to revision being at odds with his party than I am with one junior republican revisionist senator at odds with his…it’s much easier to dump Reid than it is to dump the entire republican party.
