Nothing like hiring pilfering foreigners to make your profit and add burdens to the community, Good luck in the upcoming recession!

I don’t ski.  Thanks.

Of all the issues brought up about management in the last few weeks, none included the parking situation and the fact that they put a new quad chair in to replace an already working quad chair in the exact same location… why not at least extend it down to the base lodge so not every skier is stuck in a slow line to ride a slow Chair 6, just to get off and back in another line to reach the summit?  If you’re going to put a chair in, put it on the East Rim and eliminate the Big Traverse while also spreading out the skier traffic from the Anthill.

Paying for parking at the upper lots was ridiculous, and there were zero incentives for carpooling on the weekends.  You would think a ski resort would be interested in reducing greenhouse gases if they plan to run a sustainable business.

Also, the new season pass rates, although not a huge increase, do not include summer use of the lifts as they once did.  That will cost you another $150.  I didn’t see that mentioned anywhere in the article.

I realize the mtn has to cater to the rich tourists and intermediate skiers, but they could sure show a little compassion to the locals.  Thank God it snowed as much as it did this year, it was ‘sick’, but I won’t be gambling with another season pass next year.

i would say that the lifts closed much earlier that previous years.  the maps also said the lower lifts stayed open until 4:30, but they closed at 4.  where’s that wet heavy snow that injurs skiers?  we don’t all come up early lots of people like to come up after lunch and ski late or used to.
If you are that tired maybe you should take a lesson and learn how to ski better.

Trying to be Whitefish Mountain Resort rather than Big Mountain is sheer folly.  Many of these changes remind me of the Yellowstone Club and similar club resorts that are teetering on ruin.  The promoters of professional basketball find themselves in similar situations when they disconnect their product with the local communities through outrageous ticket prices and exclusivity amenities that repel a loyal user base.  People find other venues and forms of entertainment.  In my opinion, Blacktail has the recreational ski product priced right.

You guys did read in the article where they were talking about changing the hours next year for DST, right? They basically admitted screwing up, and plus, the lifts used to run until about 4:20. This year it was 4:00. That’s not a huge difference.

Also, their website says that summer season passes are $99, not $150, and I heard they’re building a real downhill bike trail.

How do these small changes, good and bad, make them anything like a private resort such as the Yellowstone club? It’s still basically the cheapest season pass on 3000 acres, and we don’t have to live in Colorado.

The backside used to run until 4:00 but these new owners close it at 3:30.  The UGLY new yellow kool-aid site they run says “* lift operating times subject to change.”
This means that they can do what they want.
They still suck major.

Might want to check the website again… Summer passes just went up… now going to cost you $250 for the whole summer (150 from July 1 on).

By looks like they're watching on 04-22-08

Looks like they’re watching this comment thread, because they’ve corrected the misleading information that ‘bird’ pointed out. Summer passes are $99 if you buy them now, or $149 if you buy them from July 1 on.

I found the same great stashes that were there before.  The name means nothing to us and if it helps bring in more $ to keep the ski hill open for the rest of us the other 95% there are not tourists, then so be it.
What would you all have said if the Big went belly up and closed for good?
Stop the whining and enjoy the skiing.
