Why limit it to state employees and beneficiaries? This seems very selective and discriminatory to me. My parents would never accept Medicaid. Why should they not receive the same prescription benefits as a criminal in Montana State Prison or one of the chosen state employees?  What’s good for the goose is good for the common taxpayer.

I think you’re on to something here, governor. But if you look after the interests of the criminals and anointed government workers while ignoring regular Montana citizens, you’ll have a rebellion on your hands.

I will be very surprised if this is granted by the fed - this request for a waiver will garner opposition from Big Pharma, as it would set a trend that other states (and even federal agencies) could pursue.

Don’t get me wrong, its a great idea - but only if it works.

I agree.  I doubt it will happen.  If you recall there was big opposition to this several years ago under Bush.  The argument centered on the ‘unsafe’ drugs that would be imported.  (All those poor dead Canadians!)

Unfortunately, Obama has let this same, lame policy stand in the healthcare bill…no bargaining and no importation.  Another reason we pay too much for our healthcare in this country.
