Comments on: Seeing Jesus in Spokane

This is the first new and surprising thing I have read from Mr. Skinner in ages. But his partisan slip is showing. I mean, Plum Creek switched from a timber co. to a real estate corporation years before Sen. Tester took office. Shouldn’t Mr. Skinner’s rhetorical question also be put to Sen. Burns and Rep. Rehberg as well? Or are they beyond question because of the R next to their name? Seems to me we need politicians of all stripes to act if we want to keep the big real estate greedheads from ruining Montana forever.

Partisan? Has it taken you that long, “Rudy,” to figure out I’m biased? Never mind that I’m writing an opinion column here.
Rehberg actually supported the reform, but he is irrelevant in a Democrat-run House, and Burns is gone. Baucus of course RUNS the committee where the Senate version died, so he most certainly is relevant, as is Tester as a member of the esteemed chairman’s party.
As for stopping the greedheads...too late. The point now is to make the best of a bad situation.

Dave is right. This is a huge issue. We need to deal with the “bad situation” straight on, which means coming up with solutions.  The community forest created in the Swan through the Swan Ecosystem Center and CSKT is a good example of a more sustainable direction.  Max Baucus gets high marks for securing funds to purchase some 300,000 acres of Plum Creek land in Montana. But Dave’s right to question Max about the sweetheart deal that Congress has provided to REITs.
