Where is Montana’s Governor on this one. Why are “We the People” paying the Dept. of F,W&P and Dept. of Justice to investigate these folks, and then these Departments refuse to attend a Legislative
hearing. Come on Brian, demand that your Dept. heads order their employees to testify at the hearing.
The hearing will be a waste of “tax payers” money also if the investigating parties are not there.

Could it be possible to widen this investigation to other Mt. counties and their “TRUSTWORTHY” law enforcement officers and the DCI should also be investigated. In one county a deputy was
stopped by Branding Inspector and ticketed for transporting livestock without a permit. The deputy
pled not guilty and asked for a bench trial in Fergus Cty. The end results has not been made public
as of yet. More than only ONE county has corruption infested law enforcement.

POST has many other cases all across Montana, although the largest number are in Lake County. POST has only one compliance officer to cover 56 counties and all the various law
agencies across the State. There is one full time director, a secretary and the compliance
officer. That is it! The thirteen member council acts a jury to hear the cases that are brought
before it by the director and compliance officer. Imagine how hard it is to cover all that
geographic area and with such an understaffed agency. A main problem is getting law
enforcement agencies to report the unethical behavior. Often, a bad officer is allowed to resign
and the agency does not report the problem officer to POST. I have seen this done over and
over at the Polson Police Department and at the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. It is easier to let
the offending cop just move on and the agency “saves face” at the expense of allowing bad
cops to continue working in Montana. That is a breach of the public trust and those agencies
doing that are letting the entire profession-and citizens- down. POST needs more teeth to
motivate these agencies to rid bad cops from ever serving, else the dirty cops are just cycled to
another agency and there is no improvement in ethics. The problem is from the top down. the
Governor and Attorney General are part of the problem by allowing politics to enter into law
enforcement investigations. They do not want to truly investigate because they do not want
citizens to see that this has been a problem on their watch. Shame on them. Keep the politics
out of police investigations and allow the natural consequences to fall and rid these corrupt
cops from service. Better late than never.

Longbow your explaination is right. I know of several cops and Sheriff who have lied to the media about an incident and also under oath. All of these are documented which would help make the
POST more capable and easier to track the unethical practice. What makes the corruption of this
facility are the elected Sheriff and Deputies he has hired. This illegal and unethical practice goes all
the way to the District Judge.

Brian Schweitzer can’t order the DOJ to testify…. He’s not their boss, The AG is.
The FWP is under BS’s control, but he (BS) and the director of FWP are buds, and as Longbow
stated above, BS needs a good legacy for his future plans so lay low is the order of the day….
why do you think the Lynch thing last August went quiet so fast?

I can’t blame DOJ and FWP for not agreeing to this. What is Shockley’s purpose, besidesgrandstanding. There is an active POST investigation under way. That is the agency charged with
examining the allegations. Why not wait for the findings from POST?
