Er, wasn’t this already decided at the polls a couple years back?

just because the majority of the people want it doesn’t mean that the republicans will follow the lead of the citizens of this beautiful state. It is exactly like the health insurance for kids….it passed by a 2 to 1 margin at the polls but the republicans are doing everything in their power to bend to the will of the multi-nationals and NOT follow the lead of the majority. Their motto is “Profits before kids”

All drugs need to be legalized.

What authority does anyone have to ban a plant?
What right does any man have to control the plants (or any substance, really) that another man chooses to use in any way they want?
Aren’t all men created with the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness?
The better question is: How has America come to tolerate such intrusive laws as it has?

Just think, 1/2 of the people in prison could be let out, no more over crowding. 1/2 of the cops could be let go, no more budget crisis for town’s and cities. Tax the crap out of it, now we have the tax revenue for Health Care. No more reason to smuggle it in or out of the country, fixes most of the violence at the boarders. Twinkies and McDonalds have huge profits, stimulus package. The only ones that loose are police (who like the confiscated cars) and jailers (who like your tax dollars).

We lock up 100’000 more people for drugs (460’000) than the entire EU locks up (360’000) for all criminal offenses combined, even though they have 100 million more people. Due to our “war on drugs” we have earned the dubious distinction of having the world’s highest incarceration rate whereby we alone have 25% of the world’s roughly 9 million prisoners. I’m wondering if that is something we oughta be proud of? Even if we would end just the pot prohibition, which has clearly failed, we would save $ billions in not having to continue to play cops and robbers with otherwise harmless potheads, and would bring all that agricultural productivity back home. Distribution could be regulated and taxed like alcohol and tobacco, and thus even generate tax revenue for more important things. Since production is easy, prices would drop drastically and there would no longer be a truly criminal, violent, and mafia-like organized element to production and distribution.
