My wife and I moved here from Boise, Idaho and I have been looking for a job for 6 months now and cannot find anything. I’ve filled out applications everywhere, sent my resume via e-mail and get very few chances to even interview. We moved here for my wife’ job, now she’s laidoff and looks like we will head back to Idaho, jobless and penniless. I’m glad we did not buy a house, our realtor was breathing down our neck for us to buy last year.

Kent I feel your pain. We are up in Marion and both of us are without jobs and leaving town for not so greener pastures of living, but making a living in Spokane. We have family there and more opportunity. Someday we hope to come back.

Hi guys, I went to the job fair, it was a joke. Most of the so called employers were only having you fill out applications. Don’t you think if they were hiring it would have been in our classifieds, most of them were just taking apps and not hiring right now. Waste of my time and Kent, wow good thing you did not buy a house.

Hope…more like hopeless for this valley. Layed off from the mill can’t see anything happening on the horizon and I’m leaving too.

The job market here in the Flathead has always been historically tight, to say nothing of wages that are well below the national average in many occupations.  I ended up having to leave for greener pastures many years ago, and did not return until I found work that paid the same as my previous positions and allowed me to live here.  So far, I’ve been fortunate…but most of my friends are not as fortunate - they are all laid off.  They are not leaving here, they are holding out…I hope and pray that they can make it.

Just spoke to major moving and storage facility here in Kalispell.  Looking for sm. temporary storage.  Person I spoke to said few small left, most large are full for now.  I asked if it was because there are so many leaving valley.  They said “not at all”.  So then I asked if there were still many moving in?  I was told it’s pretty much both ways.  They said at this time of year they always fill up, because it’s the change of seasons and people are putting away the winter and taking out the summer.  Otherwise, it seems to be the same as those years past.
So there ya go, info from someone who knows.  Don’t plan for any massive move out soon.

I don’t know Mitch, I tried to get a U-Haul and the size I needed was not available here. I would have to go to Missoula to get it, they are booked with people moving. I guess it depends who you call, but I know alot of people that are leaving. My neighbor is a Realtor and said alot of the 4-sale homes are being rented cause they couldn’t sell.

What choice is there? There are NO jobs, and everyone I talk with said that it’s going to get worse before it gets better and will be at least anothre two years before there is any improvement. Those of you moving to Spokane, how does the cost of living compare to here?
