You know I too support tester’s stand on this jobs thing. Just like the last poster, I worry about his local staff and their background on jobs.

His kalispell field director put the word out that my son was looking for extra part-time work at job service when she was running that outfit. He also lost his job a short time later. I never knew he was the only one.

I couldn’t help notice that the beacon took down that comment, which makes me a little suspicious.

Wow. You just censored my comment Kellyn.

Two people gave anecdotal stories about the staff of a publicly elected official’s staffer black balling local workers and you censored them. I see comments on here every day that could not be quickly verified. Was it because these comments mentioned a potential advertiser of yours?

What I don’t get is that you took down our comments, but not jeane’s which doesn’t name them. That spells advertiser-controlled content Kellyn.

That’s very spooky Mr. Brown.

Ed. C,

I’m leaving part of your comment up, but am taking the rest down because you name names. Again, there is no way I can verify the accusations you’re making. For all I know, the person you’re referencing is a private citizen.

No reason to be spooked about it. I just have no information on the situation in which you’re referring.

As I wrote yesterday, It appears to me that Tester is quite the hypocrite.  Back in January he emphasized jobs and infrastructure.  See:  http://www.helenair.com/articles/2009/01/09/top/49st_090109_tester.txt

Then he voted against TARP and the auto bailouts.  I guess the auto companies don’t employ people.  Infrastructure is less than 5% of this Stimulus bill.  Shame on you Senator Tester for supporting this sham with your vote and your smokescreen rhetoric about standing up for jobs.

READERS RATED THIS COMMENT:

Hey, I saw that too Ed C. I saw at least one comment earlier saying something about Tester’s Kalispell constituent rep having been tied to some kind of black-balling of workers at her husband’s behest before she was in Tester’s office. The comment was about her working before with job service and using information she got there to help her husband fire workers who were trying to find jobs with better wages.

It is kind of corrupt for a newspaper to delete these comments because they relate to the staff of a public official who is being out front on Jobs. it would be like one of denny rehberg’s staff helping committ branding fraud or something. They’d totally be fired because he supports ranchers. In this case, I think tester would totally fire this person—if this is true—because of tester’s support for workers. I don’t think it was right to delete those comments.

I’m not on with Craig Moore, cause it’s obvious where Tester stands on Jobs—the good side. But I totally saw an earlier post about that field staffer blacklisting local workers when she worked at a jobservice, and now when I read this story again after class, the post has been deleted.

I can’t get why the editors took this down? the assumption Brown is hiding behind is that the newspaper has to verify opinions and examples used by people in comment threads. This, of course, is a totally bogus claim—otherwise this would be a full time job. This deletion was selective. The real reason is probably like Ed suggests, that this employer is a potential advertiser for the Beacon, and they don’t want to piss them off. Otherwise, they’re just hiding their partisanship, which is unnecessary. Everyone knows the media is liberal—I’m guilty of it too as a media student.

Republicans are saying they don’t see any evidence that this bill will help create or save jobs. At the same time they were saying this, Caterpillar’s CEO was saying that they will likely be hiring back many of the 20,000 people they have laid off if this stimulus bill was passed. Looks like the Republicans are wrong again… smart people will see a pattern.

While on Fox News, the channel that is on every barroom and barbershop TV, he did not answer about the “secret health care rationing provision” but could only parrot the party line. His appearance and demeanor don’t help much but by not addressing the question he confirmed the country bumpkin impression. It is interesting how he could vote against the other bail out plans but could vote for this Lipstick on a Pig. Could it be because this one contains some Pork for MT that he can brag about?

Jon Tester has earned my support and I’m a centrist Republican. His latest comments and activist attitude makes me wonder if he’s not now bitten by the publicity bug very few can avoid under the ‘Big Top’ of Washington politics.  I’ll be closely watching to see how many jobs this Spending Bill delivers. Hopefully the Beacon will be tracking results as well and provide the public with periodic updates.

Excuse me, When has Glenn Beck ever had any credibility outside of FOX news?  I don’t believe that he does.  Could you find anything by a reputable economist like Nathaniel Roubini or Paul Krugman to back up the assertion that you are trying to make there?

That youtube is revisionist propaganda that is both inaccurate and not helpful for discussion between parties of honorable intent

As for the homeless man, I do not recognize him.  I do recognize both of the Krager brothers for their outstanding public service though.

mtdon, you demonstrate some serious logic errors.  Not just R’s object to Obama’s plan, although Senator Gregg, withdrawing as commerce secretary, is an R.  Also, not everyone who objects to Obama’s plan supported the deficit spending of the past 8 years.  That was just plain wrong.  Taking the deficits of the past 8 years and multiplying them by 100 does not make Obama and his plan right.  Take the politics out of it.  We can save for our futures, borrow against them, or turn our children upside down and steal their pennies that fall out and commit them to servitude so we can have it now.

When will the messiah’s reign end????? Tester and Baucus are idiots. Do they even know what they voted for? Liars- it wasn’t even available at lunch today to read but they voted for it tonight? When will all the people of MT wise up- this bill is not a jobs bill (most will not be created for 18+ months), it is a bill to see “how quick can we get money back into the coffers of the people who contributed to get us elected”- they are all thinking about who can contribute for the next election.
BTW- did anyone notice that $8B was added that was not in the House or Senate bill? It was added for purchasing land for a high speed rail between Veags and LA, and OMG, guess whose family has land that will be sold? Can anyone say Senator Harry Reid? His own stimulus plan, I guess…..

Try looking at it this way:  Would you ‘voice’ approve an 1100 page prospectus/agreement to obligate 789 billion dollars, or far less amounts, of your, or your firm’s money ?  Would what your staff or colleagues be sufficient to induce you to do so ?  If the answers are yes, then I submit you wouldn’t be successful as a businessman or managing your own money.  There’s little question a stimulus bill of some type is needed to assist the economy in recovering from a whole host of indignities and indifference I need not go into here.  Why did it need to be hurried in such a fashion when a great part of the Bill has no immediate effect ? Just a cursory examination to an amateur, such as this taxpayer easily reveals the Bill is loaded with items having little or nothing to do with stimulating the economy.  The Bill contains pure ‘pork’ and a number of items that appear to be nothing more than political stimulus we could easily do without.  You might consider asking Senators Baucus and Tester these questions in a short letter.  I for one am anxious to read whatever perverted logic they will use in answering my letters.

“You’re either for jobs or against jobs”????  Ridiculous.  The statement should be “You’re either for pork or against pork”.  This “jobs bill/stimulus package” is nothing more than a stopgap; even Obama admitted this fact.  Washington is still removed from reality, thinking that they can cure all the ills of the economy by spending even more money.  Just because more money is being spent by the government doesn’t mean that jobs will instantly be created.  Fiscal responsibility is just an afterthought on Capitol Hill these days.

1st off - every congressman and senator have hue staffs that are paid to read those bills….and it is the only thing on the plate of washington right now and has been for the last 2 weeks so “We didn’t even have time to read the bill” is a FARCE.

JB - you must think all of these are pork:
1.87 billion for medicare(I know health care for poor people- what a shame - only rich people should have access to heath care.
2. 55 billion for aid to states - I know who cares about food stamps and LEIP payments - people don’t really need to eat or stay warm in the winer - in fact many states can’t even pay their employees their earned wages - oh yea - gov workers don’t deserve to be paid.
3. half was tax cuts
4. money for head start - even if has been proven that kids in head start are less likey to end up in jail and more likely to go to college and lead a productive tax paying life.
5. 85 billion for infrastructure - if the republicans had actually spent a nickle on this then it wouldn’t be such a priority now - hey what’s a few bridge collapses - I wasn’t on it!
6. 1.5 billion for emergency homeless shelters - Why when there are so many bridges they could live under?
7.50 billion for green energy - this is only fair given that bush gave out more than that to the oil companies that enjoyed world record profits.
8. 10 billion to help weatherize homes - Why wouldn’t we do this instead of just shoveling it out for LEIP etc - it called an investment for a reason
9. 15 billion for science programs - I know we don’t need to be on the cutting edge of technology anymore - why? when we can import it all!
10. 7 billion to expand broadband to rural areas…

there is 95% of the stimulus bill - these are real people we are talking about….when the rightwing created the problem in the 1st place and now doesn’t want to clean up after themselves!

I will admit that the democrats aren’t perfect - but you know the old adage - the democrats are surely the worst party except for the republicans - i’d preface that by saying this page is filled w/ the rightwing opinion and I am just trying to level the playing field - what fun would it be if we all agreed?

I don’t claim to be from any party represented on the Hill.  The truth of the matter will come out when we actually see how many jobs this bill actually creates.  I’m betting it will be nowhere near what Obama thinks it will.  I really do hope it does keep those who are unemployed and suffering right now from suffering further, but it really is just a stopgap - if we see any actual infrastructure improvements from this measure, it will be a miracle.  Of course, we will be borrowing this money from those who have it to lend - namely China and Saudi Arabia, who has it to lend…and not only we, but also our children who will be paying the interest on this debt for many years to come, with absolutely no gurarantees that it will pull us out of this recession.  Yes, Bush got us into this mess in the first place, I agree - I just hope that we are not throwing good money after bad.

Bush failed to demonstrate leadership on arresting government spending.  That being said where were the D’s that took the House a couple of years ago?

Now let’s look at revenues over the past years:  http://www.taxfoundation.org/publications/show/1478.html

Substantial growth to record levels… but not enough to keep up with spending.  Seems very odd to me for anyone to support a massive spending bill that does nothing for revenue enhancement and takes the spending mistakes of the past 8 years and multiplies them by a 100.

The 1000 plus page compromise bill was printed on Friday morning and voted on later that day.  Nobody read it!!!!  The only reason to ram the vote, as was done, was to keep people from reading it before it was passed.  That is in keeping with the politics of the past that Obama promised to change.  Where was the transparency we were promised?  When he campaigned he hammered Bush over the politics of fear, but yet it was fear that he used to justify the urgency for voting for this largest ever spending bill before it could be read and debated.  I see nothing but politics as usual, hypocrisy, lies, and deception by the new D controlled presidency and congress.

Dear US dollar,

I wish to write and tell you a final goodbye. The past 200 plus years have had their ups and downs, and since 1913 it has been mostly down. I understand that it is not your fault, however more the fault of those who create you. It was a shame when your strength was removed from you forcefully from the people in 1933 and from the world in 1971. Dollar, you were defined as a promise, a redeemable note which at one time represented a tangible asset. Now you are merely a representation of empty government promises and blind faith. You have been betrayed and abandoned by your masters, and raped by those in power. Your reputation has been tarnished and your ability to be redeemed called into question at no fault of your own. Your final days are before you as you are sacrificed on the alter of debt to the god of credit. This stimulus plan, born on Capital hill, born in sin and lies will take you further towards your end. I wish you the best as I say goodbye. I thank you for giving this nation years of prosperity. I thank you for allowing me to exchange your wrinkled and empty notes for gold and silver, who will now protect and represent my wealth.

In currency heaven you will be joined by the German Mark, Bulgarian Lev, Argintina Dollar, Zimbabwe Dollar, Vietnamese Bot, Russian Ruble, and many other fiat currencies who met a similar demise.

Goodbye US dollar.

-Citizen

the dollar is empty and dead. It is now 940:1 for and ounce of gold, whereas in 1971 it was 35:1. The DOW gold ratio was 45 ounces of gold to buy one share of the dow in 2000, at the start of 2008 it was 15:1. Right now the DOW-GOLD ratio is 8.34:1. It takes only 8.34 ounces of gold to buy one share of the DOW. This will continue. Soon it will be 2:1. The DOW will drop, the dollar will drop and gold will rise. This is reality. All data confirms this. Any person not seeing this will be left with far less purchasing power and capital then if they acknowledge it and make moves into gold and out of the dollar or dollar denominated assets. GET OUT OF DOLLARS. Rising prices are only a symptom of inflation. Inflation is the rapidly increasing money supply. As the money supply increases, (Doubled in 3 months) so will the price of real tangible assets such as gold, silver, wheat and oil. Watch next year and the following. You will see.

“Banking was conceived in iniquity and was born in sin. The bankers own the earth. Take
it away from them, but leave them the power to create money, and with the flick of the
pen they will create enough deposits to buy it back again. However, take it away from
them, and all the great fortunes like mine will disappear and they ought to disappear, for
this would be a happier and better world to live in. But, if you wish to remain the slaves
of bankers and pay the cost of your own slavery, let them continue to create money.“

-Sir Josiah Stamp, The 2nd richest man in England and former head of The Bank of England 1927.

Those in power maintain their power because those without power do not understand the
power dynamics operant in the world they live in. Thus, the economic control over the
many for the benefit of the few has continued irrespective of the form the economy takes.

good luck and always buy physical gold.  do not by ETFs or paper gold.  They shorted more gold this year than is mined in a year.  The paper markets and COMEX will probably face a default at some point.  Buy and secure physical gold.
