Instead of being enviously bitter why don’t you work to make Kalispell a cool town too? It’s also good for the economy. Did you know that the #1 source of income in Kalispell is Social Security? All the older folks sitting around complaining that their kids leave and go off to cooler, better, more progressive places for better opportunity—and then they turn around and do everything they can to keep their town stuck and not moving forward. Instead of blaming everyone else - and throwing stones at the success of Whitefish, maybe you should do something about your own town?

Yeah, I gotta say I’m not pleased to see Whitefish or the Flathead valley on any magazine “best of” lists.  Growth for the sake of improving the economy is a fallacy.  Cities and Counties are no longer financially able to maintain, let alone improve infrastructure no matter how many people move here.  Planners of the past or today are not performing well enough to keep the character of our towns and so when magazines tout us as ‘best this or best that’ and throngs of people move here, it defeats the award.  The qualities once touted are destroyed by the many more residents that move here for those qualities. See: Self-defeating.

The valley has enough specialness to attract all on its own.  We don’t need magazines either local or national tooting our horn for us.  Don’t shout “Y’all come” and then dive for cover and complain loudly when the mob threatens to run you over on their way into town.

Keep the secret…quietly enjoy what we have.  A secret is only a secret if you share it with a select few or one.

Oh, and to those of you reading this from outside the area, the cold and snow here are miserable; drugs and unemploymnet are rampant and the dust from the unpaved roads will choke you horribly.

Whitefish used to be this quiet, nonassuming little town in northwest Montana…

And then somebody told somebody else, and so on, and so on, ad infinitum…

Too late - its already lost its appeal, right along with the likes of such quaint little towns like Sun Valley, Vail, Aspen, Jackson, Sedona, and Taos…

You go to these places to get away from the big city and its rudeness, and what do you find when you get to one of these “quaint” little towns?  Take a guess.

Traffic in Whitefish has gotten so bad, I find myself driving around it more and more rather than through it.
