Comments on: Will Sarah Palin’s Resignation as Alaska’s Governor Hurt Any of Her Political Ambitions?
By Kalispell Native on 07-05-09
The quittah from Wassila.Caribou Barbie-epic fail.
By sandie on 07-05-09
My prediction? Look for Sarah on FOX News “Fair and balanced” ahem…...Bet she has a TV/Radio contract worth at least a half million a year. She has many legal fees to pay off and this will be perfect exposure for her. Plus speaking engagements will bring her in a handsome sum.
By stella on 07-05-09
Yeah.. I’m sure she has something in the works. I know a lot of people love her (what’s not to love when she winks at you so sweetly) but I just see her as shifty and shady. She did do something right by stepping down as governor…she hasn’t been doing her job for quite a while now. Ask an Alaskan.. it’s what they wanted.
By Roark on 07-05-09
I think that Mike Pence of Indiana, of the current possible candidates in the GOP field for President in ‘12, is the best man to be the next Executive. http://www.mikepence.com/main.htm

Max Blumental reports on The Daily Beast that Sarah Palin may have quit her job today because she was trying to avert a major, yet-to-be-disclosed corruption scandal. The gist of the rumor is that an Alaska building company called Spenard Building Supplies (SBS) was awarded a contract by Palin to build a hockey arena in Wasilla, AK, and in return, SBS helped construct Palin’s home.
By woody on 07-06-09
stupid is as stupid does—
just another crooked republican thing caught w/ her hand in the cookie jar.
I believe the ONLY thing she has ever done was build that hockey arena in wasilla…...now we know why she really wanted to get it built - so they could use the materials to also build or remodel her own home….or something just as stupid.
Once again I say - Great job righties - every day you prove how worthless your party really is.
By stella on 07-06-09
The “B.O. Regime”, as you put it, did not ask her to step down.. she did so on her own accord. She didn’t want to be a lame duck governor. She wouldn’t have been reelected anyway, more than likely. Alaskans have gotten pretty fed up with her antics of late, with their governor off doing anything but governing. As she has stated in several interviews, she felt she was getting unfairly picked on with frivolous lawsuits over her spenditures as governor. She has been found in the wrong on several issues and has paid back money to the state of Alaska. She feels people are treating her unfairly? Well, she is just getting called out on her own behavior. That happens sometimes when you go around pointing fingers so much. You just might get a little bit of attention on yourself, Mrs. Palin…
This is all information coming from her interviews, which you can see for yourself online…. and I hardly think that Obama is standing in the background coaching her on what to say to sway America towards how he wants us to think…
By stella on 07-06-09
The problem I have with Sarah Palin is not because she is conservative. I’m actually fairly conservative when it comes to family values. I was raised to hold family first and to respect your fellow man. I like that she is a soccer mom and likes to take her kids with her on her trips.
However, she takes it a bit far in how she presents herself and her ideals. She comes accross as uppity and condescending with her implications that her way is the best way. She instigated a lot of debate over whether she was the right choice for VP, not because she was a woman, but because of the things she stood for. A large issue is that she didn’t just state how she felt, she yelled it while winking and wagging her finger. She alienated people who did not feel the same way as her on issues and made them have to stand taller for what they feel is right. There is no middle ground with Sarah Palin. She makes it seem as if it’s her way or the highway and that she won’t cater to anyone who feels differently.
I hate to see someone picked at needlessly, but in this case she brought it on herself. If you question another person’s core values, as she has publicly done to a large portion of the population, then you will be subject to being scrutinized. That’s just the way it is. You either hold up to the pressure and stand tall and proud or you fold and go away. If you instigate a fight, you will get a fight. That’s just the way it is. You can’t turn around and complain about all those dang liberals jumping down your throat when you started a fight with them to begin with.
I have no doubt that this woman is eyeing a 2012 bid for president. She has made a very calculated move in that direction. She will not, however, have my sympathy for getting picked on by the press. There are people in that state who are happy to see her gone. It’s not an uncommon sentiment. She has been the subject of a few ethics complaints at the state level. Most have been dismissed, but she herself has returned money for some of the trips she took her kids on. Granted, it wasn’t breaking any rules at the time but the state has had to turn around and go back and make rules because of her actions. To me, returning funds is an admission of guilt on the issue.
My personal opinion is still that she is a bit sketchy. I just get that feeling from her, as I do any other politician.
As to your comment Truther… Unless you have personally gone out and talked to every Alaskan, you can’t say “Everyone here was saddened”. It’s just not true.. I have access to Alaskans’s too lol.. And throwing words like lies and garbage into the mix do not strengthen your case either. If you come forth with a respectful argument, you are way more likely to get a respectful response and not get picked on for your spelling abilities. Like I’ve said, if you instigate and thrash with words, you will get it back.

You have to hand it to her….she said she was going to root out waste, fraud and corruption and she did!
SHE fired HERSELF!
Priceless.
What a LOSER!

Ummm…who cares?? She’s just another distraction…so what if she quit? Just another player on the political stage…
By JB on 07-07-09
@mooseberry - awww, don’t worry…we have the great messiah B.O. to take care of us children! We won’t even need to work anymore, he will provide for every need! Of course, we won’t be able to go anywhere without supervision like children, or “be rude and speak out of turn by saying bad things about the government” like children or we will be punished and sent to our room without any supper; we will be expected to behave and follow the new rules, because that will help us to accept our new way of life. Aren’t you just so happy to be a part of it all? Besides, we will have lots of distractions to keep us so busy and entertained that we won’t even need to think about what we have lost, because we didn’t need our freedom anyway…right?? And if we’re especially good, we can help to build the future - a future of infrastructure and control that ensures the great B.O. and his kind will be better able to help us! Doesn’t that sound just so wonderful??
By JB on 07-07-09
Decaf…uggghh. I’d almost rather have those new wonderful government sponsored drugs that make you feel so calm and serene, you just don’t care any more…just let my eyes glaze over…
Good wishes to you as well mooseberry - and good luck; we’ll all need it to survive what’s coming.
By woody on 07-07-09
funny considering how you righties already accomplished everything you are whining about now.
But it’s really about racism and social justice.
Anything about actual social justice and you all run like rats towards the crawlspaces.
AND Obama the Orkin man is coming for you!

We Americans have become idiots. We would rather elect somebody who sees their primary work as winning the next election. When someone comes along who is truly working for the public good, has the clarity to not get caught up in political machines, we deride and abuse her (or him). Palin has left office because her children have been abused by the media and she has been hounded by trumped up ethics charges and has been accumulating legal fees that she will probably pay personally because she has too much integrity to use public tax money. So she makes a decision that is the best for her state and the best for her family and she is ridiculed because of that?!
Gone are the days of statesmen, who would sacrifice their own ambitions for the good of the public, and understood that big government is naturally against the good of the public. Anyone know the story of what George Washington did after he led the Continental Army to victory over the most powerful military in the world? Probably not, because our schools don’t teach American history anymore.
Wake up people! You think our politicians are working for your good? Don’t be a fool, they are only working for their own re-election. They love the spotlight. Alexis de Tocqueville spoke the truth when he said, “in a democracy, the people get the government they deserve”. Plato, in The Republic, spoke truth when he said that democracy will always give way to tyranny. This is happening in our nation because our governments, both state and federal, no longer work for the good of the people, they work to sustain their power. And instead of realizing that government is enslaving us, we cry out to them, like miserable starving beggars, to give us just one more hit of that luxury and security that we can’t live without.
Ever seeing but not understanding…

The previous post was another comment from boston.com, in response to the Palin article about “if I die politically, so be it.” It sums up my opinion to a T about the Palin resignation and the state of our government.

It’s no wonder the Russians gave him a cool reception this week, despite the media playing things up…at least, they gave him an ear…not that that means anything.

Here’s a little insight into the brainpower of Palin:
Palin said there is a difference between the White House and what she has experienced in Alaska. If she were in the White House the “department of law” would protect her from baseless ethical allegations. “I think on a national level your department of law there in the White House would look at some of the things that we’ve been charged with and automatically throw them out,” she said.
Fascinating, isn’t she? “...your department of law there…”
There’s a department of law? In the White House? Is that near the department of books, Sarah? Or the department of science?
And to think this Einstein could have been a proverbial heartbeat away from the Presidency. Wow.
By woody on 07-08-09
Obama has only been in office for less than 6 months -
it’s not an easy job cleaning up after the absolute destruction and mess caused by you rightwingers -
You would just love to hand over any remaining power of WE THE PEOPLE straight over to the corporations.
republicans - for the norm - are usually the dumbest people around - notice:
palin, bush, reagan, mccain et al - and don’t even start w/ the brain surgeons on the right blogging here, a bunch of intellectuals they ain’t.
And once AGAIN more of the HATE “WE THE PEOPLE” garbage from JB - actaully JB - the reason the gov doesn’t work so well right now is that you republicans have sold the gov off to the highest bidder thru insane lobbying laws etc
Power to the People
Not to the corporations - corps are dictatorships - probably why the rightwing will do anything for the corporations. You righties never met a dictator you didn’t love.

Most 12-year-olds can tell you what an ugly business politics is. They know that mud gets slung and backroom dealings occur. They know that as an elected official, you are subject to scrutiny, suspicion and criticism, most of which is ill-motivated by people who aren’t after the truth, but are out to damage you. So, what does it say about a woman who runs for office and then claims she didn’t know? It seems to me that those entering the fray of political office ought to be well-prepared and have their eyes wide open. Niavety at this level of public office is not only embarassing…it’s DANGEROUS!
It’s been said that ALL publicity is GOOD publicity, but in Palin’s case, nothing short of devine intervention will get this woman elected to more than board member of a cemetary district. Appropriately so, for a cemetary is where you’ll find her political career.
By JB on 07-08-09
You are so naive, woody…Obama is an agent of Wall Street finance - they own him, lock stock and barrel! Too bad you’re too blind to see it.
Wall Street has killed Main Street. Look at Obama’s cabinet - it’s the government of Wall Street, by Wall Street, for Wall Street! There is nobody from heavy industry, the auto sector, big oil, the tech sector, defense contractors, labor, women, retirees, or small business! It’s all Wall Street finance types - its the most intensive Wall Street administration in American history.
The only reason Obama is President is that Obama can be controlled. Obama is the puppet, and the Wall Street controllers are the puppet masters. Obama takes the heat for Wall Street, and Wall Street systematically pursues its agenda of robbing this country blind.

The Alaska Dept of Law is what we call the MT Atty General’s office. I hate to defend out-going AK Gov. Bubblehead, but she used a term she is oh-so-very familiar with.
By wouldb1 on 07-08-09
The point is there is no “department of law there in the White House.” She shouldn’t speak of that which she knows nothing. Anyone considered for VP should know that there is a Justice Department and an Atty General. She should also know that they are not in the White House. She’s an idiot. Period.
By Kalispell Native on 07-08-09
I’m with ya, wouldb1.
By stella on 07-09-09
Personally, apart from just not digging her personality, I’d really rather have a President or VP who has a more substantial experience in the political arena. I mean, and this was a true scenario that I considered during the elections, what would happen if McCain had won but then died in office? He is 73, not far off from the average life expectancy of an American male. Not only would we have been left with a president with little actual experience with governmental workings, we would probably have a higher threat from foreign countries sensing our weakness. There were a lot of Republicans who weren’t too keen on her for VP either. During the worst financial crisis most of us have seen in our lifetimes, would it really be beneficial to have a big old rift in our governing body?
I wouldn’t go so far as to call her an idiot. She was a pretty effective leader of Alaska. She just wasn’t the right choice for VP and won’t be anytime soon, especially with stepping down from her source of gaining more experience! I question her motivations, as I would question any other person’s looking to go into political office. I really do feel that the woman is attention starved. I wonder what her answer would be if asked the question, “Why did you join that beauty contest back in the day?” Maybe that sounds rude to some, but I absolutely want to know what sort of person she is and I can figure that out by examining her reasoning. Politicians should absolutely have their personal lives and opinions questioned. They are responsible for making extremely important decisions that can affect the lives of many people. Look at New Orleans, for example, and Bush’s lack of respect for the human life there. His lack of timely response was just one of many on the list of disgusting choices that that man made. It’s just really important to stand behind the moral standards of the politician and we as Americans haven’t really questioned enough along the way. We have been led by a bunch of people who know how to present an image and work a crowd. What has that gotten us? Look at all the scandals of late…
We’ve ended up with some really shoddy characters in DC. We love to sit around and complain about how that sucks, but how many really go and hold a sign campaigning for the person we really feel so strongly for electing? How many people, when they feel very strongly about a cause, write to their senators, governors, editors, etc? How many people really even get interested enough to feel strongly about something? How many people engage their children in discussion about such topics and encourage them to stand up for what they believe in? How many people, who call politicians shady or corrupt, raise their voice to make it known? I think the answer to these questions is a changing one, in the right direction, but it’s going to take a change in mindset of most Americans before we really reap the benefits of it.

Truther, you are absolutely pathetic. Trotting out lie upon lie with no evidence to support it.
Obama dated a transexual? prove it
And while married? Prove it.
Obama abused cocaine? Prove it
He’s not an American citizen? prove it.
And just how does a city spend money, let alone throw a party? Those are human activities.
If the GOP is the party of personal responsibility, why do you defend the irresponsible? Oh, that’s right, IOKIYAR. (It’s OK if you are a republican.
By wouldb1 on 07-09-09
Truther than what????
“...money spent on lavish cocktail parties by Washington D.C.” Who is Washington D.C., Truther? Are you talking about State dinners for visiting dignitaries, or what?
“Admitted cocaine abuser”???? I believe he acknowledged in his biography that he has, like millions of others, “tried” it. So what? I find this kind of open honesty refreshing. FYI, Bush was the coke abuser before he “found” god.
“Dateing (sic) trans sexuals (sic). While married…” Where did that come from? A well-respected blog no doubt. Please buy a dictionary.
“stand firm on anything of good moral ethical value” Nice word salad, but it makes no sense.
Palin is a bonehead, plain and simple. The fact that she appeals to a certain segment of the population does not mean she is beyond reproach. Her excuse for quitting holds no water. She’s a quitter. Hillary Clinton, of whom I am not a fan, has endured decades of scrutiny and ridicule, but she has risen above it all with dignity. Sarah could learn from her example. Instead, she plays the victim…..
By Kalispell Native on 07-09-09
Precisely the response I expected from you Truther. A churlish tantrum. You toss out a bunch of crap, and when challenged, you can’t back it up and tell people to go find it for themselves. Classic talking-points cowardice.
By wouldb1 on 07-09-09
Truthless - You’re kidding, right? YouTube videos as “proof”????? Do you not know what YouTube is? If your reality is based on homemade videos, I feel very very sorry for you. If I post a video on YT “proving” that Palin’s oldest kid was fathered by John McCain, and I agreed to a lie detector test to further my claim, you’d believe it, right? Wow. P.T. Barnum was right…..

Sorry bubba, you lose. First off, you cite worldnutsdaily, hardly at top of journalistic integrity, unless it is competing with the national enquirer.
http://conwebwatch.tripod.com/stories/2008/wndsinclair.html
begin quote
“Did WorldNetDaily learn nothing from having to settle a libel lawsuit just two weeks ago? It appears not, because WND is doing the exact same thing that led to its prior lawsuit—repeating unverified charges that it made no apparent effort to fact-check.
A Feb. 17 WND article—which cynically acknowledges its goal in attacking Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama by putting the words “sleaze charge” right in the headline—unquestioningly repeated accusations made by a man named Larry Sinclair, who claimed that “he took cocaine in 1999 with the then-Illinois legislator and participated in homosexual acts with him.” Accompanying the article was a copy of the lawsuit Sinclair filed against Obama and other Democratic officials containing the allegations.
Nowhere is it indicated that WND made any effort to verify anything Sinclair said (though it does add at the end that “Calls placed to the Obama campaign were not returned”).
end quote
begin new quote
“This little ride inside WND’s smear machine shuddered to a halt on Feb. 24, when WND reported that Sinclair “reportedly failed two polygraph tests administered by the website WhiteHouse.com.” Bizarrely, the article then went on to repeat once more in detail Sinclair’s allegations—as if Sinclair hadn’t just been discredited—and linked yet again to a copy of the lawsuit Sinclair filed against Democratic officials.”
end quote
whoops. You need better sources.
