Comments on: With Obama’s Plan, AmeriCorps Could Greatly Expand in Montana
Let’s be civil.
The Flathead Beacon encourages vigorous discussion and lively debate, but we will delete comments that attack other readers, make accusations we can’t verify, stray too far off topic, criticize local businesses (call them if you have a problem), convict someone of a crime, use profanity or are simply judged to be in bad taste. It’s good to see young people making a difference, being part of the solution rather than the problem. Finally a story about tax payer money well spent!!

Americorps is a flagrant hand-grab of taxpayer money and should be condemned by any individual who values liberty and reason. Do not confuse altruism with benevolence!

“This collectivist belief in the supremacy of the group over the individual is the foundation of the national-service ideology, which regards the individual as a servant to the nation. And the proponents of “duty” to the state, although they claim to be patriots, are espousing a view that is fundamentally un-American.”-Alex Epstein

Hey Roark, why don’t you ask those 300 rural, low-income homeowners in Flathead, Lincoln, Sanders and Lake counties who had their homes weatherized this fall, what they think about Americorps. Better yet, you like the outdoors right Roark…that’s “your” birth-given landscape to roam, right? Consider that without the help of Americorps members, more than 1000 miles of NW Montana trails that you and your cronies hike/ride/motorbike every year would go un-maintained. Oh, you’d probably enjoy that chance to bag on the Feds for not maintaining your playground.

Hey Meyers- love the fact that you highlight Americorps my man. Good people doing good deeds. Just want to point out that while VISTA has a solid presence here in MT, other Americorps programs currently have over 8,000 participants completing direct service. Just worth a nod in my opinion.

Sorry I misspelled your name Myers. My bad.

Couple links that might interest those wondering about numbers of participants in Americorps serving MT.
