Brock Osweiler’s powerful right arm is a mystery even to him.
His legs have helped him elude linebackers on the football field and elevate to block shots on the basketball court, but it’s that arm that has shattered quarterback records at Flathead High School and given him such a pretty release on his jump shot. He can’t explain where he got it from – his mom, maybe. And now that arm is taking him to Arizona State University to play quarterback, and possibly beyond.

well below decade average
Hunting Picks Up, But Harvest Counts Still Lag
Following a slow start, deer hunting in northwest Montana has picked up over the past two weeks, due more to the arrival of rutting season than favorable weather conditions. A lack of snowfall continues to hurt productivity in some areas, and check station counts for whitetail bucks and total mule deer are still well below the past decade’s average.

When flagging interest threatened to terminate both of Whitefish Mountain Resort's freestyle and snowboard teams, long-time freestyle coach Steve Knox invented a solution. Last year, he combined the two teams and refocused the coaching instruction targeting what lots of the kids on the mountain were doing—jibbing in the park.
"Were all about jibbing," he says. The combined approach worked, attracting 33 kids into the program to learn jumps, ride rails, and master tricks. "The kids won hundreds of dollars, half a dozen snowboards, and half a dozen pairs of skis at local events," adds Knox. Two even won medals at a national competition.

HELENA – Crouching in a forest as the sun rose on the Continental Divide west of Helena, hunter Russell Ferebee listened to elk bugling and hoped one would draw near enough for him to shoot it — not with a gun, but with a bow and arrow.
Ferebee stayed close to the ground, his camouflage jacket and pants helping him blend in, and remained silent. Runny nose? Wipe, don't sniffle and signal the wildlife. Ferebee's companion intent on coaxing elk into close range tried "talking" to them with simulators that mimicked the mating call, or bugle, of a bull and the mews of a female. Ferebee sat with his bow, a carbon arrow ready to fly on a crisp morning as summer turned to fall.
