Assist with spring sessions of Camp Corvid, Ravenwood’s nature immersion program for regional elementary school groups.
Assist in planning and leading various youth nature programs from June through August. Training in natural history, youth mentoring, and wilderness skills provided.
Assist in conducting our annual fundraising festival, Rockin’ for Ravenwood, involving food, music, information booth, children’s activities, and merchandising, July 24, 2010. This is in addition to the four day work week.
The intern will work closely with Ravenwood Executive Program Director (EPD), Brett Holmquist, to meet the stated objectives four days per week. Vacation time during the internship period is very limited and will be considered on a case-by-case basis with a minimum of two weeks notice. The intern lodging facilities are based near Bigfork, MT (15 minutes from town) in the foothills of the Swan Mountain Range and adjacent to State and National Forest lands with direct access to the Bob Marshall Wilderness complex. Intern will provide own transportation and food.
Key Tasks:
➢ Learn and eventually deliver the core routines/lessons of Ravenwood youth programs
➢ Assist in planning and facilitation of summer fundraising festival
➢ Participate in independent naturalist training program under the guidance of the EPD
Basic Qualifications:
➢ Basic knowledge of natural history of Montana
➢ Prior youth mentoring experience (e.g. teacher’s aid, camp counselor, etc.)
➢ Professional approach to communications, timeliness, and follow through
➢ Solution oriented thinking and flexible mindset
➢ Clear background check
Compensation:
$165/week plus a private, one room, off-grid cabin (no pets) with shower and kitchen facilities available in nearby lodge. Future employment may be considered depending on qualifications, experience, and funding availability. College credit is an option and must be set up by the intern. $100 cleaning deposit for the cabin.
College Credit Option:
Should the intern choose to complete the college credit option, here are suggested assessment criteria:
➢ Keep a detailed daily reflection journal
➢ Create and submit lesson plans for education activities created and conducted by the intern
➢ Submit a final reflection paper on the value of the experience in regard to the intern’s future professional pursuits. I.e. “What am I learning from this experience and how will it help me achieve my own professional goals?”
➢ Participate in a minimum of two scheduled reviews by the supervisor
