NWS predicts several rivers to reach flood stage by Sunday

Weather Service Predicts Flathead Flooding

With temperatures predicted to rise into the high 80s in the next few days, melting snowpack is expected to bring several northwestern Montana rivers and streams to flood stage by the end of this weekend, the National Weather Service officials said Thursday afternoon.

Forecasts indicate that several rivers in the northwestern area of Montana will approach or exceed flood stage by Sunday. The rivers include the Yaak River near Troy; the Fisher River near Libby; the North Fork of the Flathead near Polebridge; the main Flathead; the Middle Fork of the Flathead near West Glacier and Essex; the Stillwater River near Lawrence Park in Kalispell; the Swan River near Bigfork; and the Bitterroot River near Missoula. Exact predictions are available at the National Weather Service Web site, where the service will continue updates through the weekend.

Columbia Falls business networking event

Business After Hours comes to Falls Station

Tomorrow, May 15 from 5 to 6:30pm, Edward D Jones, Fairway Mortgage, Sterling Title and the Alpine Clinic (and perhaps others) will host Columbia Falls' May Business After Hours session.

Come by and meet the staff members at these businesses, see your neighbor, munch on some of the fine hors d'oeuvres (aka munchies) and do a little meet and greet. You need to get out from behind computer screen for a while anyway, right?

How to get there: Falls Station is on Highway 2 right in the middle of town.

Columbia Falls SD6 school levy election

Passing and Failing: SD6 Levies

Yesterday's Columbia Falls School District Six levy election had its highs and lows for those who balance the books in our schools.

The $69K elementary school levy passed by 51 votes, 679 to 628. The $142K CFHS levy failed by 40 votes, 737-697.

I asked SD6 Superintendent Mike Nicosia for his thoughts on the election. He said: These are difficult economic times. I believe that our community looked at the options and did the best it could in support of its schools. We are all grateful and thankful for the successful elementary levy vote.
