Flathead’s Osweiler Commits to ASU Football

Flathead High School junior Brock Osweiler, who made a verbal commitment to play basketball at Gonzaga after his freshman season, has now changed his mind and committed to playing football at Arizona State.

"It's just the right decision at the right time," Osweiler said Thursday.

Osweiler committed to the Sun Devils and coach Dennis Erickson on Wednesday and told Gonzaga his plans the same day.

Charlie Dotson represents Flathead High School with three different pairs of shoes. In the fall he wears cleats as he carries the football across the pitch and in the winter his sneakers pound the hardwood of the basketball court. With the arrival of spring, Dotson is lacing up his orange and black track shoes.

For a girl who thrives on improvisation now, Amanda Weigand used to stick solely to the basics of gymnastics: forward rolls, simple trampoline jumps and weaving through an obstacle course.

The simplicity of her early routine is easily explained – she was only 2 years old.

There’s a lot of talent in this county – if such a county vs. county tournament were to ever be played, we like our chances.

At Flathead High School, Behind the Spotlight

When Flathead High School Theatre presents “The Secret Garden” this weekend, most of the play’s crew hopes to remain unseen, rather than steal the spotlight.

“If everything goes perfectly, the audience doesn’t even notice what you do – they get caught up in the atmosphere and just think it’s magic,” senior Victoria Zimmer said. “But if you screw up, if actors are in the dark because you forgot a light or a car is supposed to be pulling up and there’s no car sound, the audience starts looking around. They know something is missing.”

As one of nine seniors on the Flathead Bravettes who have played basketball together for years, Meghan O’Connell knows what to expect from this year’s Class AA state tournament in Great Falls.

“I think state is going to be the best time of our lives,” O’Connell said.

Bravettes Advance to State, Boys Stay Home

In a divisional match-up with a state tournament berth on the line, the Flathead Bravettes jumped out to a 9-2 lead en route to 21 first-quarter points and never looked back, taking down Missoula Hellgate 62-44 at Flathead High School Saturday afternoon.

The Bravettes, 13-8 (8-5), will be Western AA's No. 4 seed in the state tournament this week in Great Falls, kicking off the tourney against the east's No. 1 seed Butte High on March 6 at 10:30 a.m.

On the boys side, the Flathead Braves gave up 28 points in the fourth quarter to blow a late lead and lose to the Missoula Big Sky Eagles 76-71 in a divisional match-up at Flathead High School Saturday night.

With the win, the Eagles advance to the state tournament held in Great Falls March 6-8. The Braves finish the season with 15-6 (7-6) record.
