High Hopes for Glacier Tennis
Head coach Josh Munro isn’t the only one excited about Glacier High School’s inaugural tennis season. The 55 students who showed up for the first day of practice apparently are ready to go too.
Munro, coach for boys and girls tennis at Glacier, said even though many of his players are freshmen, they aren’t necessarily inexperienced. Some of them, like Liana Bates and Cami Mathison, already are seasoned veterans in the United States Tennis Association (USTA) circuit.

These are Flathead County’s high school all-star basketball teams, as chosen by the Beacon. We’ve ignored class distinctions and conference limitations to round up what we feel would be the best squads to match up against any other all-star teams in the state. There’s a lot of talent in this county – if such a county vs. county tournament were to ever be played, we like our chances.

Mark and Christy Harkins were warned about high school romance. They were told it’s puppy love – it won’t endure after graduation.
Two decades after they finished high school in Snohomish, Wash., the Harkins, both coaches and teachers at Glacier High School, are preparing for their 16th wedding anniversary.
Freshman phenom anchors young team
Glacier Wrestlers Turning Heads
Any varsity squad led by a kid named Stormy Day brings an element of excitement to the wrestling mat.
Especially when the kid’s only a freshman.
Day, the Glacier Wolfpack’s freshman phenom wrestler, has grappled his way to a 31-5 record this season, which is an impressive feat no matter how old or in what weight class a wrestler is. But for a freshman in the highly competitive 125-pound class, it’s remarkable, said coach Mark Fischer.

High School Swimmers Practice Before Dawn Year-Round
Sunrise is still an hour away, but for 25 swimmers from Glacier and Flathead high schools, practice is already over. It’s freezing outside and a full day of school awaits them.
“They come here at 5:45,” coach Paul Stelter said, “get into a swimsuit and jump into a cold pool – with the workload they have, it’s amazing.”

Girls Basketball Doubles Up In Kalispell
A good way to soften the blow of losing seven seniors is to have nine more return the next season, including your two all-conference stars.
After placing third in last year’s Class AA state tournament, the Flathead High School girls basketball team not only has nine seniors on this year’s roster, but the Bravettes also have their two all-tournament performers in Meghan O’Connell and Kendalyn Habel back for their senior seasons. Habel was also voted all-state last season and O’Connell was all-conference.
