Even though I'd already grown up with two savage, er, angelic siblings, I decided to be a Big Brother. All these years later I'm still very thankful for it. Working in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program allowed me a memorable three-month experience spending time with a young fifth grader named Aaron. After school we'd play sports and ride bikes together. Essentially I was someone for him to hang out with, but really the benefits went both ways as it allowed me one last chance to be a kid before moving onto college. Being a Big Brother or a Big Sister is a great opportunity and I couldn't recommend it more. The program also deserves all the support it can get. The Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flathead County is hosting its spring fundraiser, Bash at the Bay, on Saturday, May 12, from 5 to 7:30 p.m., at Fazooli’s on Flathead Lake in Somers. The event is a reverse raffle, where it’s not the first ticket drawn that wins the grand prize, but the last – this year’s winner will walk away with a one-¬week RCI vacation, $1,000 in airfare vouchers and $1,000 cash. Tickets are available for $200 and admit two people to the event, which includes dinner, a silent auction, and an opportunity to win the vacation getaway as well as other cash prizes. Only 250 tickets are available for purchase. “We invite everyone to don their sandals and Hawaiian shirts and come on down to the Bay for a beach party and help us celebrate Big Brothers Big Sisters," Tim Sievers, executive director, said in a statement.
