Bigfork Bank Robbery Case Moving to Federal Court

By AP News, 2-16-12

Flathead County officials say the case against a Bigfork man suspected in a string of bank robberies in western Montana is moving to federal court.

Steven Dee Norred made an initial appearance Wednesday before Magistrate Judge Jeremiah Lynch in Missoula on a charge of robbing Glacier Bank in Lakeside of $14,000 on Sept. 28.

He was initially charged in Flathead County, where prosecutors then added charges for a November 2010 robbery of the same bank and a September 2010 bank robbery in Bigfork.

All three crimes were committed by a short man wearing a motorcycle helmet who fled on a motorcycle or dirt bike. A similar suspect robbed a bank in Seeley Lake last April, a bank in St. Regis in May and Muralt's Travel Plaza in Missoula in 2009.
