On the Beacon this morning,
it's the busiest weekend of the holiday season in the Flathead, and we've got a full rundown of everything going on. A 65-year-old
man has died in a one vehicle crash on icy roads near Eureka. Glacier High volleyball players
Kayla Smart and Lindsea Vaudt have been named to the all-state team. And
Warren Miller wants to know, "Why is it?"
In state news, a University of Montana economist said the
recession has hit Montana, but the state will likely outperform the rest of the country. The
Board of Regents has voted against a proposed community college in the Bitterroot Valley. U.S. Sen. Jon
Tester, D-Mont., said there are some merits to a bailout for the auto industry, but the "devil is in the details." The
Carbon County attorney indicted on cocaine charges will give a press conference next week, and Attorney General Mike McGrath has called on him to resign. The
Glacier County attorney has filed animal cruelty against a Mustang rancher west of Browning. The
Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation has joined other hunting and fishing groups in support of removing gray wolves from the endangered species list in the Northern Rockies. And a
federal agency has suspended water and power permits for the Highwood Generating coal-powered plant in Great Falls.
