Good morning and
happy birthday to the late, great Barry White.
On the Beacon this morning,
Plum Creek Timber Co. announced yesterday it was eliminating 35 jobs at its medium density fiberboard plant in Columbia Falls. Myers Reece looks at the
cross country season, and the phenomenon specific to the sport in which freshman and sophomore girls are often at the peak of their performance. The
Conrad mansion's carriage house, and former home of Hollywood actress Virginia Wood, is for sale in Kalispell. The
Whitefish Lake Institute is conducting water temperature studies on 20 lakes between Whitefish and Eureka. And in
Warren Miller's world, the ski filmmaker writes about the bizarre weather he has encountered in his long life.
In state news,
Ron Paul now wants off the Montana ballot as the state Constitution Party nominee. Montana Attorney General Mike
McGrath said he will not investigate comments by Gov. Brian Schweitzer at a July fundraiser in which he bragged about tampering with the 2006 U.S. Senate election results. But
one poll observer in Crow Agency says he was indeed asked to leave during ballot counting on that election night. The
first state veterans' cemetery in Western Montana was dedicated yesterday in Missoula. And
in Helena, city leaders from across the state are meeting to discuss the best way to pass a local option sales tax bill in the 2009 Legislature.
And finally, a lewd
vandal in Nebraska has evaded authorities for a year as he has pressed his greasy butt and groin on almost every window in the town. He's known as the "Butt Bandit." Have a great weekend and enjoy this weather while it lasts.
