Whitefish Bulldogs Roll into Class A Football Championship Game

The Whitefish Bulldogs are playing for the state football championship.

Whitefish defeated Miles City 31-14 in the Class A semifinals on Saturday to earn a bid to the championship.

The Bulldogs (10-1) will play at Dillon (10-0) at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 21.

Pre-sale tickets are available at Whitefish High School. Tickets are $7 for adults and $6 for students. Ticket booths will open at Vigilante Stadium in Dillon at 11:30 a.m.

Dillon is the two-time defending state champion and is playing in its fifth consecutive chipper.

This will be the first state title appearance for Whitefish since 2001, when the Bulldogs lost to Fergus 12-9. Whitefish has played in four title games in the school’s history and won once, 14-7 over Powell County in 1979.

Dillon edged Whitefish 22-21 on Sept. 4. The Bulldogs led for most of the game before the Beavers scored a late TD to secure the win.

Whitefish downed Miles City on the road thanks to a strong second half. The Bulldogs outscored the Cowboys 24-0 in the final two quarters. Quarterback Luke May passed for two touchdowns and rushed for another pair. Brian FauntLeRoy caught two TD passes and Carver Gilman kicked a 43-yard field goal.

Dillon defeated Havre 43-8.

Whitefish boasts a talented lineup that includes Chris Park, who has tallied 1,047 yards rushing and 10 TDs.

May has ran for 747 yards and 15 TDs and passed for 1,564 yards and another 19 TDs and only two interceptions. Receiver Jed Nagler has caught 31 passes for 609 yards and seven TDs and FauntLeRoy has 495 yards and six touchdowns.

Dillon quarterback Troy Anderson leads the team in scoring and has passed for 1,923 yards and 23 TDs and eight interceptions. He has also rushed for 552 yards and another 13 TDs.
